‘Made in Cambodia’ extends beyond garments to cars

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has inaugurated a Ford production line and sub-assembly plant in the northwestern province of Pursat bordering Thailand.

The expanded facility is operated by the local subsidiary of Thailand-based RMA Group, which has been active in Cambodia since 1992.

“Today, Cambodia can proudly label products ‘Made in Cambodia’ not only on garments and textiles but also on cars,” says the prime minister, speaking at the plant’s April 22 inauguration ceremony. “This marks a significant milestone for our nation.”

The initial investment for a US$21 million plant on a five-hectare site, adds Kevin Whitcraft, RMA’s chief executive, has risen to US$26.8 million with the site expanding to 12 hectares. The plant will have an annual production capacity of more than 10,000 vehicles.
