In his new role, Tong will lead customer proposition, customer experience and integrated brand and marketing priorities for HSBC's international wealth and premier banking business in Singapore, with a focus on strengthening customer propositions, deepening customer relationships and supporting the continued growth of the bank's international wealth franchise.

Ashmita Acharya, head of international wealth and premier banking, HSBC Singapore, says: “As our customers become increasingly international in their outlook, the ability to seamlessly connect them with opportunities and solutions across markets remains a key priority. Henry's extensive experience in developing cross-border and customer-centric propositions will further strengthen how we serve the evolving international wealth needs of our customers in Singapore.”

Singapore is a priority market for HSBC and the fifth-largest geographic contributor to group profit before tax, as well as a primary wholesale offshore booking centre and wealth hub in Asean.

HSBC says it continues to invest in its capabilities, distribution and client experience in Singapore, including doubling technology spend over five years and increasing investment fivefold in the physical network, with four new wealth centres opened since 2024.

It recently announced plans to hire more than 100 AI specialists and establish a Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore, as well as hire 100 additional relationship managers.
